Big 12 football: Sooners may have lost their chance at title

NORMAN, Okla. — The Red River Rivalry took a big hit in terms of national significance after both Texas and Oklahoma lost last week.
Even as painful as the Longhorns’ demoralizing loss to Kansas State might have been, the Sooners lost more in their fourth-quarter meltdown at Colorado. OU’s 27-24 loss likely cost it a shot at a national championship.
The Sooners aren’t likely to get much traction from a victory over No. 19 Texas on Saturday. And that could be the highest ranked team the Sooners face the rest of the season.
The Sooners say they still have plenty to play for in the Red River Rivalry. The two schools have accounted for the last eight South Division titles, with the Sooners winning five of them.
“We both know there’s a lot on the line,” OU wide receiver Malcolm Kelly said. “Rankings don’t matter. This is a big game every year because of the nature of the game.
